SSD MLC vs SLC

SLC devices store 1 bit per flash cell, MLC devices store 2 bits per cell. The reason MLC drives are cheaper is because a chip half the size (and cost) can store the same amount of data. 
Single-level cell (SLC) SSD drives are faster and more reliable.
Multi-level cell (MLC) SSD drives are slower, cheaper but less reliable.
